A serving adviser to Theresa May is to give tips on reaching politicians at a private event for a corporate lobbyist and its clients, according to an invitation obtained by The Red Roar.
Mario Creatura, No 10’s Head of Digital on a salary of more than £53,000 a year, is listed as a speaker for a private event organiser by lobbyist FleishmanHillard Fishburn on 31st October. The invitation promises to teach attendees how to “reach politicians and impact policy”, and also features former Corbyn spinner Matt Zarb-Cousin.
Creatura is said to have been drafted into Theresa May’s team by her chief of staff Gavin Barwell, who employed Creatura as his bag carrier when he was the MP for Croydon.
FleishmanHillard Fishburn’s UK clients include private health firm Nutricia and the Carlyle Group, an investment firm that boasts of having $201 billion in assets. In addition to its UK operation, FleishmanHillard Fishburn conducts work in the Russian Federation and has employed a general manager in Saudi Arabia.
Creatura could fall foul of Civil Service guidance on dealing with lobbyists that states “DO NOT use your knowledge about what is going on inside Government to impress your contacts in the lobbyist world” and “DO NOT use yours position to help a lobbyist get a benefit to which he or she is not entitled”.
The binding Civil Service Code also warns civil servants not to “misuse your official position, for example by using information acquired in the course of your official duties to further your private duties or those of others”.
It could mean that Creatura is forced to pull out of the private briefing.
