REVEALED: What may now be allowed under Labour’s new definition of antisemitism

The Labour Party's new code of conduct, which has omitted several key examples of antisemitism, may allow online abuse of Jews by party members to go unpunished.

The Labour Party’s new code of conduct, which has omitted several key examples of antisemitism, may allow online abuse of Jews by party members to go unpunished.

Four key examples of antisemitism which are included in the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition have been dropped by the Party, in a new code of conduct presented to the National Executive Committee on Wednesday.

The move may see Party members, who could have previously been suspended and expelled, allowed to stay in Labour. The Red Roar has found several cases in which members of pro-Labour and pro-Jeremy Corbyn Facebook groups have made antisemitic posts which don’t pass Labour’s new definition, as well as evidence that the alt-left website, The Canary, will also be protected by the changes.

Included are comments such as, “[Israelis] are a bunch of f-ing nazis;” “no one can serve two masters;” and “Are [British Jewish community leaders] taking their orders from Mark Regev (Israeli ambassador to the UK)?”

Below are the examples of what appears to now be permissible in the Labour Party.

This practice was justified by the alt-left, pro-Corbyn website, The Canary, which published an editorial written by its editor, Kerry-Anne Mendoza, in 2016 entitled ‘The inconvenient truths that prove it is not anti-semitic to compare Israel to Nazi Germany’

Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nations

Applying double standards by requiring of it behaviour not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation

This manifests itself in a focus on Israel over and above the actions of any other nation. Although difficult to quantify, Israel is criticised most days on each of the forums The Red Roar looked at, whereas Burma and its Rohingya crisis, for example, receives nowhere near as much attention.

Since 2015, The Canary has published 171 articles on Israel, whereas it has only published seven which mention Burma or the Rohingya.
