At least five members of the Conservative Debating Forum Monday Club Facebook group were listed as “attending” a Westminster drinks reception hosted by Reignite, a Tory digital project founded by Rees-Mogg supporters.
Red Roar revealed on Monday that Jacob Rees-Mogg was listed as a member of the Monday Club group which was filled with Islamophobic comments calling for Mosques to be demolished and for Sadiq Khan to be executed. There is no suggestion that Rees-Mogg posted inappropriate material, and he has told the Observer that he had no knowledge of being signed up to such groups and left them after being alerted to their content.
One active member of the group, Justin Shasha, advertised the event to fellow members and later later live streamed Rees-Mogg’s speech to the reception on the Facebook page of right-wing Tory think tank the Bruges Group.
Several other members of the Monday Club group are listed as having attended the event including suspended Tory councillor Stephen Canning, Tory activists Hebing Wang and Marina Muttik, and former Tory council candidate Stephen Savva who Red Roar revealed has demanded “we should ban Islam”.
Jacob Rees-Mogg did not respond to a request for comment.
The news will raise further questions about Conservative links to Islamophobia after a Red Roar investigation revealed that Rees-Mogg was listed as a member of two Islamophobic groups, one of which contained another nine Conservative MPs and 25 Tory councillors.
