Yesterday afternoon The Red Roar received an email from Polly of the Green Party demanding we take down an article about that party’s co-leader Mr Jonathan Bartley.
We have complied and would like to apologise to Mr Bartley for describing him as a “staffer” for the Tories. In fact he was a volunteer on John Major’s campaign for leader of the Tory Party and Prime Minister. We are very happy to make it clear that he was not a staffer as nobody had to pay him for his work for the Tories.
What we are not apologising for, despite Polly from the Green Party’s demands, is our assertion that Mr Bartley published “fake news” by suggesting that he falsely implied Lambeth council funded the Labour Party. We would advise Polly from the Green Party to read some defamation law: the test is implication and the implication of Mr Bartley’s Tweet is crystal clear – see for yourself:
Nor do we accept Polly from the Green Party’s claim that donations to the local Labour Party by Labour councillors are “not comparable to the Green Party system through which donations are made to the national Association of Green Party Councillors”. That’s just silly, Polly.
