The rows in Haringey over Momentum’s highly effective putsch against the leadership of the council ahead of next May’s all-out elections continue to grow ever more vicious.
On the one hand Charley Allen, Morning Star columnist and chair of Crouch End Labour Party and newly selected candidate for the ward, has been forced to defend his claim that the term “zio” – invented by the Klu Klux Klan as a racist epithet for Jews – was not abusive. Given he is standing for election in a ward with one of the highest proportion of Jewish voters in the country he might find this is something of an electoral albatross.
But the left have been fighting back – New Statesman journalist Julia Rampen has interviewed a member of Stroud Green Labour Party, a certain Joseph Hughes who asserts that deselected councillors did nothing to explain their support for the controversial Haringey Development Vehicle and so only have themselves to blame.
What is puzzling some local members is that Rampen nowhere states in her piece that Hughes is her flatmate. Perhaps the subs cut that bit out?
