ET on the big stage

Emily Thornberry's street-fighting style has endeared her to many party members of late.

Emily Thornberry, whose street-fighting style has endeared her to many party members of late, has been given star billing at Women’s Conference, which gets underway in Brighton today. She will deliver a 20 minute speech – whereas shadow women’s minister Dawn Butler is scheduled to speak for around half that time.

The combative Thornberry is also pushing for more time at the podium when the full conference begins tomorrow, arguing that the seven minutes allocated to shadow cabinet members is not nearly enough.

It’s no wonder the bookmakers now regard her as one of the favourites to succeed Jeremy Corbyn.
